Needwant call upon on the immaculate production skills of Bonar Bradberry for his second release on the unfaltering imprint. Bonar’s You Were Away EP is a journey through emotive disco dreams, with remixes from Maxxi Soundsystem and Space Ranger providing housier takes on the originals.

Title track ‘You Were Away’ is a thought provoking slice of captivating disco sheen. Steady shakes and claps set the pace while sleek guitar licks and emotive piano keys build the track into full momentum. Blissfully whispering through the melody is the dreamy vocal sung by Bonar himself, which beautifully showcases his diverse artistic talents. The A-side of the vinyl release will include the title track but also an instrumental version. Released as a digital only, the elevating ‘Lip Therapy’ is a sublime delivery of advanced production. Prominent claps drive over the delicate percussion, warbling strings and cosmic stabs, while soothing synths infiltrate the atmospherics, all echoing the 80s New York disco scene mixed with a contemporary edge reminiscent of Metro Area.

German trio Space Ranger provide a powerful remix of ‘You Were Away’. A deep, hypnotic and sensuous spin on the original with a spacey injection, raw funk and housey groove, this is a solid driving force that will rock the most discerning of dancefloors. Next up Maxxi Soundsystem steps in to remix ‘Lip Therapy’, with a momentous build of soaring synths, soft drum patterns and added vocal hook, the track explodes into an uplifting classic house cut, yet withholding the disco influences of the original.

‘You Were Away’ is Bonar Bradberry’s second release on London based Needwant Records and the relationship between the two is a seamless fit. Alongside his solo projects, Bonar is one half of the Leeds based super duo, PBR Streetgang, with partner in crime Tom Thorpe. The enigmatic pair have been leading the pack in the world of disco, but their diverse and versatile approach has allowed them to play a wide range of musical styles from vast clubs to small basements. Moving from strength to strength, PBR have enjoyed another summer as residents of the world famous We Love… at Space in Ibiza and an upcoming release on Hot Creations is sure to boost the PBR profile to new heights.
