Terrence Parker releases his second album for Planet E. Following his 2014 Long Player, ‘Life on the Back 9’, comes ‘God Loves Detroit’.

“The concept of ‘God Loves Detroit’ came first in 2013. By this time the city of Detroit had just filled bankruptcy, making it the largest municipal bankruptcy debt filing in US history. The city was the subject of jokes on late night television, and ridiculed globally. I couldn’t help but feel GOD loves Detroit and must be allowing this for a reason. As the city began to slowly turn around I too was inspired to create a collection of songs that would ultimately make up the album.

I am very happy and humbled with how this project has manifested as a piece of musical and visual art to represent Detroit in a positive way. It is my hope this project will reach beyond Detroit to let the world know Detroit’s struggles are the world’s struggles, and Detroit’s victory is the world’s victory because GOD loves us all.” – Terrence Parker

Terrence Parker breaks down each track title on the album.  

‘Bassment Beatz’ 
One of my all time favorite tracks written, co-produced, and performed by Merachka.  This track tells the story of a girl who has isolated herself in the basement and grows more insanely creative with various music machinery to make underground music.

‘Don’t Waster Another Minute’
This song was co-produced, written, and performed by Merachka. The song can take on many different meanings depending on how one interprets the lyrics. Ultimately it’s GOD declaring his love toward us as we would each other.

‘GOD Loves Detroit (The Resurrection)’
This is a re-birth declaration of love for the people of Detroit. It’s intended to let the know GOD loves us, is with us, and for us.  With HIS love and guidance our city will bounce back to be better than ever.

‘GOD Will Provide’
This was a groovy track I produced with the idea of using samples that say “GOD Will Provide”. Ultimately I decided the track was better without the samples but I didn’t want to lose the importance of the message.

‘Just Like Muzik’
Inspired by Erick Sermon’s use of the Marvin Gaye sample, this track really came to life once Merachka put her vocal touch on it. The message is metaphoric in music to love and love to music.

‘Latter Rain (Healing Mix)’
Inspired by Joel 2:23-24, Coco Street gives a warm vocal performance in this track which she co-wrote and co-produced. This version is more of an ambient praise and worship song to give honor to GOD and bring solitude to our souls.

‘Latter Rain (After The Storm Mix)’
Keeping in mind everything I wrote above concerning the “Healing Mix”, this version is more celebratory (hence the “After The Storm” reference. A funky melodic dance groove made for heart and the dance floor.

‘Let’s Go’
This is my interpretation of a minimal techno track that builds into climatic crescendo at the end. It’s meant to be a parallel of our lives and how as puzzle pieces we may not seem as much but when placed together to create the full picture it brings recognizable clarity.

‘Lift Yo Hands Raise ‘Em High’
Ever since I heard Coco Street sing this phrase in “Let GOD Arise” I always wanted to use this as a book to build around. I’m very happy with the result with remixes coming in the future.

The Sabath
Here is another ambient styled track meant to be part of a life’s soundtrack. I imagined resting on a Saturday or Sunday when suddenly one has a life changing epiphany or a revelation. I imagined this music would be the soundtrack of that moment.

Transition
A downtempo groove which I feel helps the music of the album transition between various styles. I had samples for it but again I preferred the music without the samples.

‘Will You Ever Come Back To Me’
This is a very personal song. I composed it while going through an emotional breakup of a relationship. I put my emotions into the melody as I do with all of my music. While creating it I thought how 300,000 people left Detroit between 2006 – 2008 when the bottom fell out of Detroit’s automotive industry and housing market. With Detroit’s automotive industry back on top and other positive progress in Detroit today, I wondered if Detroit (if as a person) would ask the people, “Will you ever return”?
