The new year brings with it a new chapter for the head turning Polymath imprint –‘Melancholia’. Inspired by the theme of melancholia, label boss Third Son leads the principal release with a low slung melody soaked track.
Teased with ghostly synths that drift in and out to create a vapourous atmosphere, Third Son weaves a crescendo helmed by sustained tape-like pads. Bristol’s not-so-newcomer Kincaid incorporates 80’s synth influences, tipping his hat to House music, while clearly making way for his future in Techno.
His powerful interpretation is as uplifting as it is moody, creating a truly melodic soundscape. A new name to look out for in 2017 is Roboturner, inspired film composers such as Vangelis, he offers up a haunting piece fused with 80’s electro and modern Tech sensibilities, decorated with vocal samples, creating a real cinematic flavour.
This second series comes beautifully packaged with artwork from Chicago based artist Bryan Olson, who’s work has influenced a generation of modern cut and paste collage, and novel collections curated by Third Son.
The Polymath label was set up in 2016 by Producer / DJ Third Son, inviting artists to share their individual perspective, imagination, style and inspirations through medium of music. Aside of his contributions to Polymath, Third Son has released on premier dance labels such as Noir Music, Sincopat, Einmusika, Selador, Stil vor Talent and Definitive Recordings, earning himself a spot in the premier league of forward thinking dance music innovators.
The Polymath label can be defined as ‘many talents’ with artists involved including Digitaria, Finnebassen, Einmusik, Jonas Saalbach, Franz Alice Stern, Miss Melera, Habischman and Third Son himself, among others.
The Polymath concept asks different artists to create pieces inspired by their perception of a singular theme, building a stunning catalogue of releases to date, including ‘Nirvana’, ‘Decay’, ‘Soul’, ‘Devotion’and ‘Genus’. This forward thinking label put creativity first, giving their artists the freedom to share their own visions on a given notion, to push and stretch their boundaries and to present inspired tracks adorned with divine artwork.
