Fleeting Wax bosses Mehmet Aslan and Miajica issue their nascent label’s second release, following last year’s various artists debut 12″. Their second outing sees a collaboration between Aslan and fellow Basel resident Dario Rohrbach, while the Alma Negra production crew – which counts Rohrbach and Miajica among its four members – contribute the B-side. The release captures the sound of the Swiss town’s vibrant emerging scene, which finds Aslan and the Alma Negra team as its most prominent members: a collection of musicians from diverse global backgrounds, all of which inform their wide-ranging output through keenly sharpened production skills and imaginative sampling.

Gazel was an instant hit among like-minded DJs such as like Baris K, Ata and Acid Arab, all of whom still play it regularly since it was handed to close friends in 2013, with Aslan & Rohrbach’s production having a proven track record of possessing an incendiary effect not just on dancefloors, but also with the online ‘Track ID’ posse, who over the past couple of years chased every lead and in some cases resorted to Youtube rips in order to obtain the track now at last presented in all its full glory.

Alma Negra’s B-side ‘In The Beginning’ takes things deeper for a delicious warm-up combination of North African instrumentation, classic deep house drum patterns and trippy synths. The package is completed with a bonus track from the Fleeting Wax founders available exclusively from the label’s Bandcamp. Oriental Strings combines the titular element with a rarified 70s disco groove to irresistible effect.
