Despite only being two releases in, Planetary Notions has steadily built a name for itself over the last few years. The first two EPs from label head Joe Rolét were quickly picked up on by the likes of Delano Smith, Craig Richards, Brawther, Mathias Kaden, FUSE residents Enzo Siragusa & Rossko, whilst getting some serious love from RA, i-D and Mixmag.

The label’s bi-monthly London parties based around quality resident selectors attract a fiercely loyal following and are rapidly becoming one of the city’s favourite intimate affairs.

Planetary Notions continues its hot streak this September by giving a debut to two hotly-tipped producers: Stellar Wind and DSC. While little is known about the label’s latest additions, both tracks perfectly encapsulate what Planetary Notions is all about – piloting expertly constructed, bass-driven tech designed to move a dancefloor.

Kicking off the EP is ‘Search In The Skies’ by Stellar Wind. The track is characterised by swirling atmospheres and distorted bird calls which are deftly layered over an off-kilter groove and deep bass. It’s a wonderfully trippy journey which is rough around the edges in just the right way.

On the flip side is the debut effort from DSC. Moving away from the irregular rhythms of the A-side, the track is built around a wonderfully punchy bass line and sharp hi-hats. As it develops, an alluring vocal is introduced, culminating in a bewitching six-minute space odyssey.

On the ‘Lovers Fall EP’, Planetary Notions continues to demonstrate that it is a fertile environment for up-and-coming producers. Stellar Wind and DSC have delivered a masterful space-laced and atmospheric A & B combo which pays homage to label’s roots in soundsystem culture.
