The juggernaut that is the Andreas Mügge production machine continues to flourish on Lucidflow. His sheer prolific force of nature is reflected in his DJ feedback, stating in the section reserved for “record labels released on” that he has simply been on “too many, I forgot!” What this translates to is a well honed and effective style, easily sitting at the top end of the intensity scale within the Lucidflow roster.

Take the lead track from the ‘Magenta’ EP for example: it is a rollocking piece of acid techno, whose 303 line dances in waltz fashion around swells of synth. While groove based, this is a tension builder rather than a momentum carrier.

The rest of the EP unfolds in versatile style. ‘Monoid’ tips its hat towards the Lucidflow dub motif with long stretched out resonant textures, However the rest of the track is sparky dancefloor abandon, with the brightest hats and rides shattering through a thoroughly drum driven track.

From rigidly executed drum patterns into the fluidity of the sea, ‘Circles’ is as a polar opposite as you could get. The percussion is dialled back into gentle but urgent conga while the melody is half synthesiser, half ocean swell. Shut your eyes with this on and all you can see is aqua.

Finally ‘Rave’ stays true to its billing, diving right back to the early nineties with a dry as you like percussion arrangement. Over the top is a two chord hook that will evoke memories of “I Luv U (Baby)” and have you shrugging off pretension in indulgence in guilty pleasure.
