jamaica suk-altroverso

Emerging from somewhere in between light and darkness, Jamaica forges a new vision of techno duality, hammering out deep stormy rhythms that reinforce a gentle story of polyphonies.

Influenced by her musician grandfather, who played in revolutionary bands such as Muddy Waters in the 70’s, she studied music and was trained in Jazz from an early age. Jamaica performed in bands ranging from Psychedelic Rock to Shoegaze and Math Rock. Drawing techniques from her musical background, her passion grew, as did the diversity of her direction. She found a new love for production through track sequencing, modular synths, and drum machines.

Originally from Northern California, Jamaica’s electronic experience became her identity while exploring the sounds of San Francisco. It was during this time that she began to organize underground music events, landed DJ residencies, and enrolled in audio engineering school. Shortly after her degree, she offed to Europe; hungry for musical inspiration. A haphazard trip to Berlin changed everything for the young artist. She fell in love with the energy of the city & its seasoned club culture.

After setting up home base in Berlin, Jamaica worked intently on building an audio production suite with proper acoustics and production tools. This would become the laboratory where her production work would blossom. Fusing her musical roots in jazz and rock, she synthesizes these elements effortlessly. The end result is an impressionistic sound scape and sonic experience for the body and soul, also sharing the ideals of techno pioneers and purists who came before her.

Other than creating a tailored cut for Alland Byallo’s Bad Animal compilation, Jamaica has been working diligently all summer long in her own self built studio housed above the hedonistic Berlin garden club ‘Wilde Renate’ where she has been spearheading, curating and growing her roots further into the unique and addictive style of impressionistic techno she is now known for.

Already respected among her peers in the industry as a talented solo producer, Jamaica has successful releases including the debut Spektrum EP, and an upcoming compilation on Face to Face Recordings featuring a remix of her track Qurated, by Echoplex. Paying homage to her Bay Area roots, she is also featured on an upcoming 12” compilation Feral Cuts on Bad Animal. Jamaica’s productions have already found their way into the record crates of DJ’s such as Truncate, Paul Mac, Ray Kajioka, Sasha Carassi, Tim Xavier, Cari Lekebusch & Alexi Delano.
