Lany Recordings is a Belgian label that’s dedicated to House music and prides itself on championing local producers based in and around the city of Ghent where the label is based.

With an impressive roster of established artists including Kolombo, Larse, San Soda and German duo Tube & Berger, the label also champions new talent and has given a number of artists their first ever release.

Run by Maxim Lany the labels new release has three original tracks from Maxim himself, who boasts previous releases on a number of scene leading labels including We Play House, Nite Grooves, King Street Sounds and Kittball along with John Digweed’s label Bedrock.

A regular collaborator with home town friend Jimmy Van M but also a solo producer in his own right, Maxim is an accomplished DJ who regularly plays at many of Belgium’s leading club nights and events. He has also played exclusive parties for Mixmag and featured as part of the publications “The Lab” series, which is the Mixmag equivalent of “Boiler Room.”

The labels last release featured the Sue Avenue track “Homeless” which topped the Traxsource sales chart, being the download stores number one selling track for a great number of weeks.

Also featuring on this release is a remix from Harted who is a fellow Belgian best known for his releases on the Moodfamily label run by Stavroz.

The first track on the EP is “Seoul.” Starting with a thick and chugging bass synth, it’s soon accompanied by a vocal chant. With building intensity and piano stabs, the tracks rolling groove starts to develop. Filled with muffled background sounds, the track has a mysterious atmosphere lined with perfectly programmed percussion, which gives it forward momentum.

Second on the release is the Harted remix of “Seoul,” which is deeper than the original with the added addition of a dream-like melody sound. Deep and ethereal, the track still has enough bite for the dancefloor and the jazz influenced live percussion loop can only be described as a touch of class. Finished off with the originals infectiously catchy lead synth it could be argued that Harted has made Seoul his own.

Track three is “The Craving” which starts with looped live congas, rich with tribal grooves. The spacious mix is filled with a looped vocal sample and grinding bass sound which brings the track to life with startling effect. Dancefloor focused, this is House music as it should be with both raw energy and chic.

Fourth on the release and last of Maxim’s three original tracks is “Nerve” and it’s dark with a stripped back sound and booming mail vocal which preaches of future prosperity. Epic with building atmosphere and textured pads, the track’s melody hook is haunting and hard to forget. Tailor made for sweaty clubs and dark basement parties, this track is a must have DJ tool.
