We enjoy embracing the world with good sound but that’s not really news anymore, right? In other words: BPitch Control thinks globally, acts globally, loves globally – there’s no limit to our passion for quality music. By no means ignoring the strong connections to several cities and scenes cherish, our special love for southern producers and DJs can be seen across our discography with releases from Hector Couto, Fur Coat, Silvie Loto or Argy & Mama.
However, it was the Ibiza veterans of System of Survival that completely unfolded our desire for Balearic sounds in 2012 with an EP and their debut album „Needle And Thread“. After their „I Mean EP“ from earlier this year, with the brand-new „Foundations EP“ Pietro De Lisi and Alessandro Carpentieri are presenting their next confidently stylish release.
„Phone Home“ opens with a percussive emphasis underlining the hardware verve of our beloved boys from Barcelona without any detours. While the mellow soundscapes in the background invite you to daydream, the swelling bass takes over the skillful turnaround. It doesn’t matter whether the ever-present Detroit infusion or the crazy acid finale – there are many reasons why the duo is deeply loved for their ecstatic sets at DC10.
The title track is indeed less euphoric, but „Foundation“ tells an exciting story instead that receives a sinister shape through the filtered chords as well as distinctive bass. Is that still house or already techno? Who cares as long as you keep dancing! „Uno“ is the most futuristic piece on this EP.
The vocal hints arrange some dose of hypnosis without ending up in a blind alley – a nearly nine-minute mind trip that is playful and deep at the same time. „Magic“ sprays this typical groove that we know from Pietro and Allesandro. Nearly unnoticed and pretty much light-footed, they create a warm house gem by using some sub-cooled sounds – in the true sense of the word, here is some magic going on. The EP will close with „Calandroppa“ that is initially borne by a wonderfully subtle melody.
Even when the echoing chords seem like some kind of contrast, they finally form a liaison with those trenchant bass figures – that’s house music with a pleasant sense of tradition and a decent portion of modern esprit. On this level, System of Survival’s second album can be nothing but fantastic. Stay tuned, friends!
