‘Two And A Half Grams’ cements Harry Axt as a dancefloor dissident who defies German stereotypes.
This isn’t monotonous militant techno but rather engaging, dark techno bursting with genuine charisma.
Each of the three tracks on ‘Two And A Half Grams’ evince Axt’s meticulous attention to detail, with perpetually shifting offkilter melodies and samples buried within tracks that pack more than enough punch to do the business on the dancefloor at any hour of the night.
The opening title track is a hypnotic slice of techno that immediately locks into a groove peaking with an industrial breakdown before the listener is resubmerged in the heart of the groove.
The acid-infused ‘Drossel Amsel’ follows, a cut laced with cosmic melodies and backed by a driving bassline.
The EP rounds off with a snarling refashioning of 2007 club favourite ‘Tag de Befreiung’.
This version is propelled by an unrelenting bassline and distorted low-end synths which growl beneath sensual vocal snippets.
In the latter half of the track, Axt brings the rave as more and more elements are artfully introduced.
Deceptively subtle and immediately engaging, ‘Two And A Half Grams’ is an EP for dancers, shufflers, dreamers, ravers and bedroom bangers alike.
