As a primary source of energy in the Balearic Islands’ blooming club scene Mallorca based Sub_Urban continue to roll out their own balmy brand of House and Techno crossovers rich with sultry melodicism and tight, effective percussion. With previous releases from the likes of Christian Lamper, Lomez, Campaner and Melgado, the next installment comes from the auspicious Italians Wiki & Oneplus.
Close affiliates with Sub_Urban following their contribution to previous V.A EPs, Wiki & Oneplus turn in three glowing productions rife with spacious, glistening pads and twinkling melodies aimed to soothe festival sunset crowds.
Efflorah kicks off with tonal droplets bubbling below a granular shuffle before it’s bright percussion pierces through a thick fog of minorkey chords and flickering synth lines. Cycles then sets a spearing bass synth, reverberated snare and soulful acoustic guitar lines at a steady, halftime pace before their edit of Pierre Mottron’s ‘Comfortable’ brings things to an uplifting close with it’s rich, parallel piano chords and gentle, spectral vocal lines.
Continuing on form, Sub_Urban maintain their ability to select music as effective on the dance floor as in the headphones and with a busy summer ahead of them, their momentum shows no sign of slowing.
