CHILD OF PARADISE is a truly amazing album.
Any fan of NIOBE should have these wonderful 12 new Songs from this delectable composer/singer; The voice of NIOBE alias Yvonne Cornelius flows from our speakers and as we close our eyes, the German Venezuelan lady sings with all virtuosity that the music lovers of her songs deserve.
The opener “DAYBREAK” is a unique delight, blending lush orchestral soundscapes with meandering, gently powerful vocals. “JAMES” (trumpet played by Nils Ostendorf) and “LA TOILE” go beyond the usual pop music.
“MYSTIC VAN” is something so diffe- rent and thrilling, it works brilliantly with some slow songs like “HAWAII DUET” and some upbeat and all unique like the album title song “CHILD OF PARADISE”. A lot of songs were written and produced in South Africa and Italy.
Niobe is very well-known as a tinkering genius.
She needs a long time to perfect her albums; but nevertheless every other year until 2001 she surprised us with her daringly different and intelligent, (with the added joy of moving and crystal-like) beautiful music.
David Byrne made her album “White Hats” his Album of the Year in the American magazine ARTFORUM (Best of Music 2007).
The Wire selected her “Tse Tse” and “Voodooluba” as one of the best for the year 2003/2004. And last but not least, the German SPEX magazine made her last album “The Cclose Calll” the Album of the Month.
She has practically created a genre of her own, which is a good one to dance to, and will be sure to put you in a good mood; the bass line, the beat and her voice work so well together.
The one thing that you can always expect from NIOBE is the unexpected.
“CALL THE PEOPLE” and “SPIN THE BALL” are refreshing, deceptively simple, and satisfying, truly refreshing from start to finish.
It is hard to imagine how marvellous “FORM THE WORLD” is. It is extremely hot just like Yvonne Cornelius’ look.
This whole album is the equivalent of a vast and sprawling musical jukebox (RA- DIO LOS ANGELES & INDIAN SKY) The first track you think is it going to be like this all the way through, but it transcends into many different colours and shades of beauty until the very last song.
