jacob phono-addiction_altroversoAfter successful collaborations with the likes of Tom Clark and Jens Bond on Steve Bug’s Audiomatique Recordings, a compilation feature alongside Subb-An on Cocoon Recordings’ „Dots And Pearls“compilation series and remixes for Kim Kemi and Terry Lee Brown Jr. in his portfolio Jacob Phono now touches down right in the centre of the Upon. You camp with his label debut.
Set for release in mid-summer, the Berlin-based Dane caters three fresh and original tracks plus a nice and sweet rework crafted by UK producer Dave Robertson a.k.a. Reset Robot who has been making serious noise on imprints as acclaimed as 100% Pure, Intacto and Truesoul throughout the past years.
With the main track „Accepted“ Jacob Phono drifts easily alongside reduced, partly skeletal pathways whilst slightly paying homage to the creators of DubTechno with sparse chords trailing away before seductive melodies, transformed vocal snippets and a huge – think capitals here -, melodic and nearly overwhelming bassline take over for a super organic ride through clubland. Following up to this late night anthem Reset Robot is setting controls for his remix mission, taking his „Accepted“ relick straight to center of the dancefloor with merciless, pounding, straightforward drums and a well hypnotic attitude.
Focusing on a few essential, very basic elements and dubbed out, off-beat chords this rework alters usual space-time-perception within seconds and brings out timeless minimalism at its very best.
A seven minutes ride that could last forever. With its warm and floating attitude, killer vocals and atmospheric strings in steady flux „Mission For Wine“ turns out to be the perfect track for the small hours or emotional sunset shows.
BPM’s at the slower end of the spectrum, a well-catchy groove and scintillating melodies are the ingredients of choice to lighten up all faces on the dancefloor within seconds and let bodies happily embrace the pulse of the acquainted, beloved bass drum.
Finally „Addiction“ rides on a similar train vibewise and provides nothing but uplifting happiness with a killer synth motif, warm and braided bassline and uberly seductive vocals that’ll make this tune one of the most played open air anthems of this summer season. Addictive tune is addictive. Fact.
