richard davis-same room_altroversoAfter a successful 2013, Danza Macabra Records kicks off 2014 with ‘Same Room’, a label debut courtesy of Richard Davis. Originally hailing from London, Berlin-based Davis is best known for his groovy, deep, melodic house layered in smooth slick vocals, oozing with emotion and classic house vibes for the dance-floor as well as the living room.

The career of Richard spans over a decade. His achievements are widely diverse, with a series of successful releases on 240 Volts, Two Birds, as well as his own imprint Safer, not to mention featuring as a guest singer on Swayzak’s albums ‘Loops from the Bergerie’ and ‘Some Other Country’, as well as his contributions to Trentemoller’s ‘Always Something Better’ and Bomb The Bass album ‘Back To Light’, it’s evidential that Richard is a regular name in the electronic music community.

Davis has a great understanding of the role vocals play in house music, and that’s unmistakably shown in his ‘Same Room’ EP.

Opening with the title track he balances a moody bass pattern with an energetic beat, soon developing into a funky relaxed vibe laced with velvety vocals. ‘Tuesday’ jump starts with a more uplifting beat, blissfully aided by faintly psychedelic bleeps.

Its lyrics and vocals are reflective and lonesome, effortlessly engaging the listener with it’s catchy melodies and colourful chords.

The label’s very own duo Danza Macabra is on remix duty, beautifully expanding the original into a deeper level of mood, reducing the vocal just to the hint of a sigh, adding even more melodic and melancholic layers of pads and synth lines floating softly throughout the track. The remix version is perfectly catered to deeper moments on the dance-floor – the ones you encounter in the early morning hours, providing an intimate connection with music enveloped by dreamy atmospheres.
