For the second time in quick succession, tech house hero Lee van Dowski teams up with Malta producer Dean Demanuele, who has ties to Bedrock and Mobilee amongst other labels, for a new three track EP that is hugely infectious. Van Dowski, of course, has long been defining tech house trends with his releases on labels like Cadenza, Material Series, Mobilee and many others.

Up first is the title track, Function is Tension, which is a deep and rolling track that will hypnotise anyone in its wake: the search light like synths lend things and urban feel as the bobbling drums bring a certain funk to the table.

Next up, Foo Gas is another deep and dirty roller, this time with hunched drums, skittish percussion skating across the face of the arrangement and plenty of loopy, involving sub bass.

Last but not least, Calamity John comes over like a prime Perlon record with its minimal and abstract design, tightly coiled drum funk and bendy synth goo. It’s exactly the sort of track that makes DC10 regulars go wild and is why van Dowski and Demanule are so highly rated.

This is yet another ahead of the curve EP from Lee van Dowski & Dean Demanule that once again is hugely likeable and will no doubt do a ton of damage on the floor.
