Last year saw the release of Lucidflow owners Nadja Lind and Helmut Ebritsch’s studio album ‘E’. Unconventionally, it was split over each quarter of the year, with each cover of each issuing coming together to represent an enneagram, the model of human personality. More conventionally is the celebration of a Klartraum album by drafting in familiar friends and collaborators new for a remix extravaganza.

Split once again into digestible chunks, the first ‘E’ package came complete with D. Diggler, Yapacc, Detroitrocketscience, Oscar Barila and Jamin Hernandez on remix duty. Now we find Rishi K, Lucien Foort, Jon Donson and Vynyard drafted in for a second round of remix fun. ‘Sky Fall’ comes in two flavours.

San Francisco based producer Rishi K goes for a deep workout that is very much in the mould of the classic house of Charles Webster on his Remote and Love From San Francisco labels. It is very much electronic but with a hazy sunny good vibe warmth, as far from clinically digital as you can get.

Nadja and Helmut also take the opportunity to take ‘Sky Fall’ through one of their Cinematic Mix journeys. It has a live jam feeling to it with squelching wah bass and meandering electric piano solos. There is a little drop of the shoulder midway through, when a dark cloud drifts its way in front of the sun and the mood switches from jaunty to fluid moodiness before the summer haze comes back in for the finale.

Living up to its title, Lucien Foort’s take on ‘Dark Space Night’ is driving an insistent. A dirty sawing bassline refuses to relent, riding waves of intensity as the track urges on to its climax.

Jon Donson takes the micro approach to ‘Drama Queen’, working with tweezer precision percussive elements, shattered fragments of samples and using the all unifying presence of field samples as glue. Consistently restrained, it takes until the long mid-point break down to drop in its musical elements; an alien squirm bassline, two insistent chords and a final outro of gentle scales. It proves that you don’t need to wheel out the fireworks to have an impact.

Finally, Vynyard dubs up ‘Flight To Berlin’ with huge tailed ping pong delays, like the distant flashes of lightning and rumble of thunder in a dramatic skyline. The space that this creates allows the mournful muted trumpet solo to roam and thrive slap bang in the middle of your peripheral hearing. The key feature to keep an ear out here is the huge broken breakdown that layers on the drama significantly.

‘E Remixes Pt 2’ hits the streets on 6th June 2016.
