Release number ninety three for Lucidflow sees seasoned Canadian producers Ali Khan and Joe Silva combine under the name Tonepushers. While the act’s inception was in the early 2000’s, the collaboration has only recently begun firing out tracks. Here, the duo deliver Eschaton, a four track EP backed up with a remix from label bosses Klartraum, Nadja Lind and Helmut Ebritsch.

The one constant theme of the EP is its dreamy pads. The title track, in both its original and beatless ambient form, features alien strings that drift like sand blown by the desert wind off the top of a dune.

Less wistful in nature, Elate hooks you in with minor keyed intentions but you’ll find yourself returning repeatedly for the Mediterranean guitar licks – check that tempo increase over the final big break. A juxtaposition in nature, it is both sombre and sprightly.

The Klartraum remix of Elate chooses to focus on those minor chords, with the guitar of the original moved into the background with a fat organic tentacle of bass, the track unfurling gradually in kind to a graceful crescendo.

Fathom is the most angular track, like ghostly fingertips running up and down your spine. A chugging dub backing implies tension and the elements scattered over the top add unpredictability. A piano plays a melody to its own behest, bell chimes drop in, pitch shifts almost accidentally lurch across the track.
